Why did my body hair increase on Finasteride?

Started taking Fin back in 2018. Within a couple weeks I started shedding massively, including on my crown which had no signs of balding beforehand. I also started growing a lot of body hair. Did some research & came to the conclusion I had Reflex Hyperandrogenicity.

I don’t recall whether I had other symptoms of RH such as acne/increased libido, but I remember I started getting massive growth in my chest/body/facial hair. Since Finasteride is supposed to do the opposite, decrease DHT & even slow growth of body hair, I panicked & stopped taking Fin after a couple of months. Since then the shedding slowed down & hair loss has continued at a fairly slow rate.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Body hair increasing is a sign of increased testosterone, right? Could anyone explain why this happened? If it’s likely I had Reflex Hyperandrogenicity? Or if not, why it happened?

I’ve been debating trying Finasteride again, would this be a good idea or should I avoid?

Appreciate any feedback

Increased body hair on fin might be due to higher testosterone levels, a side effect of blocking DHT. It’s not typical for everyone. Reconsidering fin use should weigh starting effects with potential benefits in hair protection. Check Learn and maybe explore topical options or a gradual dose. If you’re still curious about RH, it’s a debated issue, not a widely accepted one. Always good to start slowly if you’re trying again.
