Switching from Oral to DIY Topical Finasteride – Will This Work?*

Hey everyone,
I’ve been using 0.25 mg oral finasteride (1/4 of a 1 mg pill) along with 2.5 mg oral minoxidil. My results have been decent—hair loss has stabilized—but even at this low dose, I still experience some side effects from fin. So I’m considering switching to topical finasteride.

I followed this guide from Perfect Hair Health:
https://perfecthairhealth.com/topical-finasteride-survey-results/?id_resp=luUO37hVLe

Based on that, I made a 100 mL solution with 10 mg finasteride, targeting a 0.01% concentration.

Following a video from Hair Cafe, I used Serioxyl Advanced Denser Hair Serum mainly because I already had it and it contains benzyl alcohol—an ingredient I’ve seen in some commercial topicals like this one:
https://www.medicii.com.au/products/topical-finasteride-minoxidil
Full ingredient list: Denatured alcohol, water, diethyl lutidine dicarboxylate, resveratrol (pinyl methyl ether/maleic acid ethyl) copolymer, linalool, geraniol, citronellol, benzyl salicylate, benzyl alcohol, limonene, fragrance.

My question is:
Do you think this DIY topical formula is viable or effective?

One concern: after a few days, I noticed white sediment forming at the bottom of the bottle, which made me wonder if the crushed pills fully dissolved.

Your DIY topical fin might reduce systemic sides, but the white sediment means not all of the fin dissolved completely, which could affect effectiveness. Make sure the fin is fully dissolved, possibly trying different solvents or bases could help. Check out the Beginner’s Guide for more on topicals.
