Sensitive liver, topical fin safe to try?

Hi, I’ve been reading up on what to know before getting on finasteride, and my primary concern is its potential effects on the liver. Right now my liver function is perfect, but I have a history of developing NAFLD from various antidepressants in the past, and this makes me totally reluctant to take a risk on oral fin. When I raised this concern with my GP, he informed me a topical form exists and shouldn’t interact with the liver much at all, but the discussion ended there. I’m aware that topical fin has the same risks as its oral side effects (libido, brain fog etc) but right now I’m focused on liver/ALT related side effects (I’d rather not die!) in the long term in case it accumulates. If anyone here has knowledge or experience to help me make a decision? Thanks!

In case there’s any worry: I get my liver function tested very regularly, so whenever things started to look bad I’ve easily stopped the escalation.

topical fin has less systemic absorption, so it’s usually easier on the liver than the oral form. but you should still keep an eye on it since some absorption can happen. good call on getting your liver tested regularly. keep checking for updates around liver studies on topical fin, and if you’re curious about more alternative options, head over to The Beginner’s Guide for more insights.
