To start off, I noticed my hair loss on the day the first picture was taken (April 2023), I thought my hair was pretty normal so I didn’t do anything about it until I realized that my hair was not normal and it was actually thinning. I don’t have any direct scalp pictures from before I noticed my hair loss but my hair has always been fairly thick and my scalp was never really visible.
The Third picture (October 2023) is when I started topical monoxidil 2 times a day everyday. I ended up getting a flaky scalp because of it so I slowly switched to applying it once a day which helped the flakiness.
I didn’t start finasteride until April 29th of 2024 which was the soonest that I could see a doctor to get a prescription. I wanted to start it at the same time as the topical minoxidil but since that was the closest date I could see my doctor, I had to wait to start fin.
I don’t have pictures from 2024 because I wanted to try to focus on it less but I still continued applying the topical minoxidil and taking finasteride everyday.
During this time I never really noticed a difference in the amount of hair that was falling out when I showered or ran my fingers through my hair, it seemed to keep falling so l’m not sure if I’m not responding to finasteride or what the issue is. I also never really noticed regrowth with topical minoxidil and my hair continues to fall out to this day. If anything l’ve noticed more of my hair falling out now on my clothes, when I shower, and on my bed.
Now it’s 2025 and I feel like I’m below baseline or still around the same as baseline. I know the picture from 2023 may look worse than the most recent 2025 picture but in person I definitely notice more visible scalp when l’m in sunlight or any light.
Does anyone have any advice? Should I switch medications? Please help and thanks
