Topical Finasteride Users – When Did Your Shedding Stabilize? (DUPA Case)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been dealing with DUPA and started using a self-made topical finasteride + minoxidil foam mix about 6 weeks ago. I liquefy the minoxidil foam and add finasteride at a concentration of 0.016667% per ml, applying 3ml total across my entire scalp – so in total, that’s 0.5mg finasteride exposure per application.

The reason I use foam is because liquid minoxidil completely wrecked my scalp – I had bad itching, flaking, and even rash. The foam works much better for me after liquifying it.

So far:

  • I’m seeing solid regrowth in the frontal area
  • The crown is showing mild improvement
  • Still shedding quite a bit, especially during hair washing and towel drying
  • I use a white towel to monitor the shed more easily (black hair)

Here’s the catch:
I’ve previously been on oral fin and oral dut—they worked in terms of stopping hair loss almost completely, but I had to quit due to bad sides (very low libido, ED, reduced semen volume, and penile desensitization).

Now I’m unsure if this current regrowth and partial stabilization is from the topical fin or just the minoxidil doing the heavy lifting, because the shedding hasn’t stopped yet.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Question to other topical fin users (especially DIY):
When did your shedding slow down or stop?
Would love to hear your experiences.

Thanks in advance!

topical fin can cause shedding to last a few months. The regrowth you’re seeing might be due to min as it’s a known shed trigger. Shedding tends to slow within 3-6 months, so keep up with your routine, and check out The Beginner’s Guide for more info.
