Hey everyone – healthy 38 y/o male here looking for some guidance/support/anything you’ve got.
5 years ago, I started to notice some slight hair loss on both sides of my temple. I did a few sessions of PRP with my dermatologist, which seemed to halt things for a while.
Around this time, I also lost a large chunk of my beard hair overnight, which ended up growing back in (although its white hair now) after a few months of Minoxidil and a topical steroid my dermatologist prescribed.
2 years ago, I noticed some continued hair loss on the sides of my temple, so I started using topical Minoxidil. I used this regularly (twice a day) for about a year, which seemed to halt things for a while (other than the initial shedding period, which was severe and scary). Unfortunately, due to a combination of running out of Minoxidil while traveling and some depression, I stopped using it completely about 4 months ago.
I’ve had the 2 most stressful years of my life (divorce, moving across the country, career changes, you name it), and after putting this off and convincing myself it’s not that bad for years, I can no longer ignore what’s happening to my hairline. I’m ready to do something about it, but I’m paralyzed when it comes to making a decision on how to move forward.

I’ve just gone to my dermatologist, and she’s given me a prescription for topical Finasteride 0.1%/Minoxidil 7% to use once a day, but the thought of shedding again right before summer terrifies me.

The online horror stores of side effects have kept me away, but I’m now considering trying an oral prescription, such as Finasteride. Is this a bad idea to do while using the topical Fin/Min?
-
Part of me is considering skipping all of this and going right to a hair transplant, but I don’t even know where to begin.

Are there good shampoo’s or supplements to take in addition to the above?
Looking for some direction and support from those who are going through something similar, as I’m unsure about how to move forward. Thank you so much.
