I’ve been losing hair on and off since I was 16, I’ve been using topical minoxidil foam on and off. I’m 20 now and I started taking oral 2.5mg minoxidil 3 months ago and my scalp hair has gotten much better. I was just recently prescribed finasteride, but I’m really concerned about its effects on beard growth. Is it reasonable to hold off finasteride for another 6 months and try to further develop my beard with minoxidil? Or should I just start taking finasteride today
If you have no side effects, routine check-ups etc. show no abnormality I adivse you to talk with a proper doctor who knows MPB in detail on hopping on a 5ARI (like finasteride or dutasteride) to prevent hair loss my man. Especially given it is going on since you were 16, this means it is aggressive, better late than never. You will never be NW0 without hair transplat but at least you won’t end up NW7 and with a minor hair transplant you may even end up NW0, if you decide to go that way. I suspect with no hair transplant you may reach NW1 or NW0.5
