Should I Seek a Second Opinion on Finasteride at 22?

I have a lot of hair, I know. But it has also receded into a widows peak during the last 6 years (I am 22). I have been taking 1 mg of fin for 6 months now and minoxidil spray every evening. I am pretty okay with my hair as it is right now, but I am scared of it getting worse. It has not really changed since starting fin, perhaps a few more baby hairs. So I go to the doctor to get fin prescribed (got it online before) and he said that if I have balding genes I will go bald and that he won’t prescribe fin because of increased risk for prostate cancer (???). He said nothing about me not needing it, just that I have to accept that men lose hair and that the risk of prostate cancer is to high.

Added info: My dad has a similar hairline to mine and so does my mothers dad despite being old. So that should be a sign that it won’t get much worse (?). My dads dad however has very little hair. I really have not experienced any side effects so far and would not care if I did, and made this clear to the doctor.

Should I find a different doctor somehow? Or is he right?

Your current treatment of fin and min seems effective. Fin is not proven to increase prostate cancer risk significantly. There was some thought that it might mask high grade prostate cancer because it keeps the gland small, from what I remember. Since you have no side effects, continuing seems logical. If concerned, a second opinion may help, but your regimen already supports maintaining hair effectively.
