Seeking Advice for Crown & Frontal Baldness, Hair Thinning – Should I Start Minoxidil & Finasteride?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been struggling with hair loss for quite a while now, and I’m finally at a point where I want to seriously address it. I’m a male and currently experiencing:

  • Crown baldness
  • Frontal baldness (receding hairline)
  • Overall hair thinning

It’s been progressive over the years, and I feel like it’s getting worse lately. I haven’t tried any treatments yet, but after some research, I’m considering starting topical minoxidil and oral finasteride.

Before I do, I’d really appreciate your input on the following:

  1. Is this the right time to start minoxidil and finasteride?
  2. What’s the recommended starting dosage?
  • Minoxidil % (5%?)
  • Finasteride dosage (0.5 mg vs 1 mg daily?)
  1. Should I expect side effects right away?
  2. Any tips on applying minoxidil effectively to both crown and hairline?
  3. Should I get a dermatologist consultation before starting, or is it okay to begin and monitor myself?
  4. How long before I can realistically expect to see results (or stabilization)?

If any of you have gone through a similar pattern or have a before/after journey you can share, I’d be super grateful. I just want to make sure I’m going in the right direction and not making things worse by jumping into this without proper understanding.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Starting min and fin together is common for AGA. Min is the fertilizer for hair health, and fin is the weed killer for DHT. Typically, fin is 1 mg daily, and min 5% twice daily. Watch for initial shedding with min, and fin might have some hormonal side effects. Expect to see results in 3-6 months. It’s fine to monitor yourself or see a derm if needed. Sure need to sart if u want to have a chance to not bald.
