Questions on Restarting Finasteride After Gyno Surgery: Dosage and Risks

I’ve Just had my gyno removal surgery today and it went well. The Dr told me he would remove 99% of the gland but wouldn’t remove it fully because it would cause the nipple to cave inwards. I was taking 1mg finasteride everyday since October 2022. Due to my weight gain over the years I’m assuming this combined with finasteride caused my gyno to grow. I am thinking of starting finasteride again but I don’t how long I should wait til I start again. Should I lower the dose to 0.25mg/0.5mg. Will lowering the dose still put me at risk of gyno reoccurring as the gland was not fully removed? Could I potentially switch to topical? Thank you for reading.

Dropping your fin dose to 0.25mg or 0.5mg can lessen the risk of gyno since side effects are dose-related. Switching to topical fin might help minimize chances of recurrence due to less systemic absorption. Check The Beginner’s Guide for more info on finasteride.

If I were to lessen the dose to 0.25mg or 0.5mg, would it still be effective if I take fin 3 times a week instead of using it daily. Will this prevent hair loss?

Probably. I think DHT conversion is inhibited for a few days from one dose.
