My hair loss accelerated after I (32M) turned 30

Hey,

I never had aggressive hair loss, as you can see in the attached photos taken over a period of almost 10 years (21 years old vs. 31), my hairline has hardly receded (but I did get a few gray hairs). However, after turning 30, I noticed that my temples was getting worse, especially on the left side, while the right side remained unchanged.

Over the last 2 years, I have been using finasteride and minoxidil, but I did it with some shorter/longer breaks. During that time, I would say that my hair loss stopped, but I finally decided to give up finasteride because I read a lot about its side effects (especially about post-finasteride syndrome) and came to the conclusion that I don’t feel comfortable messing with my hormones just to keep my hair, even though I did not experience any side effects other than watery semen during the time I used this medicine.

In addition, my genes are such that the hair on the left side of my receding hairline grows forward, and the hair on the right side grows backward, which has always made it difficult for me to style my hair

I should add that I lead a very healthy lifestyle, have little stress, take supplements (you can read more about that here), and use ketoconazole shampoo.

Are there any options for stopping hair loss without using finasteride/dutasteride? I know that 5-AR blockers are currently the best remedy for hair loss, and perhaps I would feel a little better if I used finasteride topically, but in a few years I will also be thinking about having children, so for this reason I would give up these remedies.

Alternatively, I will observe how it progresses and if it somehow exceeds the limit, I will decide to have a hair transplant, which will give me a few years of lush hair until I need another one (despite balding, I have very thick hair, especially in the donor area).

What would you advise?

If you’re worried about fin side effects and still want to manage hair loss, you could try topical fin or even topical dut for fewer side effects. Also, make sure you’re using ketoconazole shampoo regularly, and consider adding CBD with MCT oil for scalp health. If you decide on a hair transplant later, keep in mind you’ll still need to maintain the rest of your hair. Check out the Beginner’s Guide for more options.
