Misapplication of topical finasteride/minoxidil?

I used the topical compounded formulation of finasteride/minoxidil from Hims for 2 to 2.5 years, but noticed that eventually my hairline slowly but surely continued to recede at the corners of my forehead. I have since come to wonder whether misapplication of the solution was to blame for my poor results: (1) I applied it immediately after taking a shower when my hair was still damp, and (2) I conditioned my hair every day and but only applied shampoo once a week, if that. I have since started the tablet formulation but have experienced pronounced side effects, so understandably am looking for other options. So, my question is: is it worth returning to the topical formulation, this time shampooing more often and applying at night, when my hair is dry? Or do I have enough evidence to conclude that I just don’t respond to finasteride/minoxidil? I’m in conversation with my GP as well, of course.

entirely depends. in my belief oral finasteride is better (consult your doc first obviously) but topical fin can be great if you apply it on a dry scalp and let it get absorbed for some time. anyways, my advice for you would be to see a doctor and ask him/her about whether it would be better to take oral fin because in my belief that is better, if you get the green light make the switch. for minoxidil, fda-approved is topical anyways and that LDOM for AGA is only used off-label and FDA-unapproved to my knowledge, kinda like oral dutasteride 0.5mg for AGA in US.
