M32: Can Minoxidil Alone Work Without Finasteride for My Hair Loss?

I recently went to a dermatologist for the first time, and she recommended me the usual fin & min. But I decided to use only topical min for now (Day 5 today).

Is this diffuse thinning and telogen effluvium? If yes, is it more likely that Minoxidil alone will work? Should I add derma roller and anti-hair fall shampoo?

Reason why I want to avoid Fin: I have a mild pre-existing gynecomastia, it got worse after taking ashwagandha for only two/three weeks. I’m sensitive to medications that alter the hormones.

Is this salvageable?

Yeah, min alone can work for some people, though it typically doesn’t address the DHT part of hair loss. Your pics show some diffuse thinning, which might be AGA or TE. Adding a derma roller can improve min results. If you’re looking to boost scalp health, try a ketoconazole shampoo and maybe CBD with MCT oil. You’ll need time to see how your hair reacts, usually months to a year. Check out The Beginner’s Guide for more info on starting treatments.
