Is it okay to take minoxidil orally if I am already taking finasteride?

I’m 24 years old and currently only taking 1mg of finasteride for my receding hairline. I don’t have any crown balding.

As my hairline slowly gets worse, I want to be sure I’m doing absolutely everything I can, so I’ve decided to start taking minoxidil as well. I went to my doctor to get a prescription, and he was only willing to prescribe 5% topical minoxidil since I already take oral finasteride.

The thing is, I know it will be easier for me to keep up with my routine if I only need to take one pill a day as opposed to applying topical solution twice a day. So, do you think it’s okay to take both finasteride and minoxidil orally? Would it be less effective? I know there can be side effects, but they sound either uncommon or easy to deal with (like having to shave a potential unibrow). I assume that if it would be okay to take oral minoxidil, I’d be able to get a prescription from one of those online prescriber sites.

As for next steps, I keep hearing about dermarolling and dutasteride. Should I add in both to maximize my chances?

Yeah, taking oral minoxidil with fin is generally fine and can be more convenient than the topical routine. Oral min and fin work differently, so they often complement each other. If considering dermarolling, it might enhance the effects of minoxidil by increasing absorption. Dutasteride is a stronger option than fin if DHT suppression is your goal, but be aware of potential side effects. Check out the The Beginner’s Guide for more insights on your options.
