48m. I’ve been taking finasteride for a 4 months and am still experiencing loss. Dr. prescribed me spironolactone, which I’m reading is for M→F transitioning so I haven’t taken it yet. I wrote her asking for oral minoxidil and she said my blood pressure is too high. But it’s also used to treat high blood pressure, right?
Should I take the spironolactone? Or just get oral minoxidil and finasteride chews or similar online? My BP is 150/90 last check.
spironolactone can lower your blood pressure, so it might help with that at the same time as hair loss but consider its hormonal effects – yes not a common treatment for men. Your doctor seems to be considering your BP with oral min. Maybe ask them if something like topical dut and oral min is another option. Check the Beginners Guide for more on treatments.
Thank you, but I didn’t see much mention of oral treatments that work for those with high blood pressure? Topical minoxidil did nothing for me unfortunately. Plus I’m too ADD to remember to use it twice daily, just too hectic of a life.
Oral minoxidil is an antihypertensive, prescribed to lower blood pressure, so I don’t understand your doctor’s logic there. I’d look for a different doctor.
