Hello, I (20M) have been losing hair for the better part of a year. It was super weird one day I just noticed way more hair in the shower it went from like 0 to 40 hairs lost in the shower every day immediately. Also it was diffuse pattern but I have naturally thick hair so I haven’t noticed it at my crown at all.
Originally I thought it was telogen effluvium so for a year I did nothing. Then at the one year mark I decided enough was enough and I got on finasteride 1mg and have been on it for 8 months. I still appear to be losing 30-40 hairs in the shower but my crown appears to be intact. But recently I noticed my left hairline seems to be receding.
I’ve wanted to get a digital perm (chemicals+heat) for a year now and I kept telling myself I’ll get one when my hair stops shedding. I’m going to enter my third year of college soon and I want to change the way I look so I can have a more enjoyable year and have more confidence in myself. But I’m scared of doing so while my left temple in particular is thinning.
I’m scared it will make those hairs fall out and I’ve heard temple hairs are particularly hard to grow back so if they fall out due to the perming procedure it’ll be so painful for me. I know perming chemicals are harsh but don’t harm the hair follicle itself but I just am at a loss for what I should do. I feel like I’m the only one in the world in this situation and feel hopeless.
If someone could give me guidance and their opinion on what they think I should do then please let me know
