Getting bloods done whilst on finasteride

I’ve been on finasteride for 2 weeks and decided to order a full hormone test panel, as I’d like to monitor my levels whilst on finasteride. My question is- after 2 weeks will my hormones have already been affected by the drug or would they still be at baseline? If already altered, how long must I be off finasteride to ensure accurate baseline results?

In just 2 weeks, fin can affect your DHT levels and other hormone balances. If you want to get a baseline measure without its effects, being off fin for several weeks or even months is recommended, as it can take time for levels to stabilize. Even so, measuring while on fin can provide useful info on your treatment response.

Ok got it. From research I’ve gathered that a 2 week break should be sufficient to get a near baseline result. Would you suggest this to be true. Also, what would you test for. Personally I’m thinking E2 and test to monitor my risk of gyno. Is there anything else you would test for too?

Yeah, finasteride can start affecting DHT and other hormones within days, so after 2 weeks your levels probably aren’t at baseline anymore. If you want a true baseline, you’re looking at more like 4–6 weeks off, not just 2.

For testing, E2 and testosterone are a great start. I’d also check: DHT, free & total test, E2, prolactin, LH, FSH, SHBG, maybe cortisol too if you’re curious about stress/adrenals. That’ll give you a solid overall picture
