FtM 31yo started fin 24 days ago

I have always had a higher hairline since my childhood, but I noticed around the start of this year my hair really falling out and thinning getting worse by the month. Been on testosterone since 2018. Unsure of my Hamilton Norwood rating since my hairline was already quite high for most of my life, my temples were a bit thin for the last couple of years. The photos below are from around 2023 before any noticeable shedding hair loss.

My father is pretty much at V II on the scale and has been there since his late 50s.. I suffer Dysthemia and losing my hair is actually contributing significantly to a cycle of stress and worsened mood and it has already been a very difficult year for me.

I haven’t seen a dermatologist. I was prescribed 1 quarter tablet of Fin 5mg, about 1.22mg, each day by my physician who I see for hormone replacement therapy and I have not added minoxidil yet. I’m having significant shedding right now and had a look at my crown last night. Worst mistake before bed. It has been a cold and extremely humid winter here, and being quite over-sensitive, I am feeling all this cold air moving around my head and face almost every night, and losing sleep. I did not realise until looking back 2 years how much my hair has thinned. I was already quite insecure about my hairline my entire life, I got bullied for having a big forehead. Please tell me this gets better. I can’t actually believe how much this is affecting me.

You’ve got some typical signs of AGA, especially with the temples thinning. Fin is aimed at reducing DHT levels, which so far sounds solid. The shedding you mentioned often happens when starting fin, but it usually stabilizes. Consider adding min to your regimen since it acts like a fertilizer, promoting growth. You might not see results immediately. Stress can mess with perception of hair loss too, so try to keep that in check. Without any signs of irritation or scalp conditions from what you’ve said, focused treatment on AGA seems right. Check out The Beginner’s Guide for more insights.
