Finasteride shed at 5.5 months? - dose increase 4 weeks ago

Hi all. Wondering if you could please help me! I’m 30, a diffuse thinner NW 3-3.5 I’ve been shaving my head number 1 for a while. I plan to get a transplant in a month.

I began taking finasteride at the end of January this year, so it’s currently been 5.5 months. I started on a low dose to mitigate any potential side effects; I started with 0.25 mg daily, and then dropped 2 months later to EOD.

Once I felt more comfortable I slowly went back up and I upped the dose to 0.5 mg daily and I’ve stayed (and plan to stay) there since with no sides.

I’ve also been taking oral minoxidil for 5 plus years, and have recently increased dose to 3 mg from 2.75 mg about a month ago.

The 2 months ago my hair was actually looking pretty good, with signs of improvement and it looking darker than usual. Lately though, I seem to be regressing, with my hair feeling less dense to touch and seems thinner and lighter. Is this normal after 6 months? Does this mean the drug is working? Could the increase in dose 4 weeks ago contribute? Please help as I am scheduled in for a transplant in 5 weeks time.

Shedding after increasing fin can happen as hair cycles adjust. Keep using fin and min as they work over time. Minor changes aren’t unusual when you shift doses. Your transplant should still be on track, but keep monitoring the process.
