Effectiveness of Topical Finasteride with Low DHT Levels and Oral Minoxidil

Im now starting topical fin- my hair loss is specifically hairline recession and thinning of hairline and a bit on top which to me indicates dht related hair loss. I do have slightly inflamed scalp, I have been dealing with chronic illness, where body has been under a lot internal stress. If my DHT is already at that very low end, will topical finasteride help much?

Additional info Years ago I had sides from oral fin so I stopped. I also now take 2.5 mg or oral minoxidil, I started 1.25mg in may 2025 and 2.5mg from December 2025. No regrowth or stabilisation with that, honestly it’s felt like it sped up the hair loss which had looked like it was pretty stable for some time and I was curious to see if oral minoxidil would create regrowth.

Topical fin can still help even if your serum DHT is low since it acts locally on the scalp. It’s been known to reduce DHT levels at the hair follicle itself. Keep up with the oral minoxidil as it can support hair regrowth by enhancing blood flow. Give it some more time to see results, and consider ketoconazole for any scalp inflammation.
