Effectiveness of Dutasteride 0.5mg: Scalp vs Follicle DHT Reduction for AGA

In researches it is shown that Dutasteride 0.5 mg reduces scalp dht by 51% and hair follicle dht by over 90%. Which one of the two, hair follicle dht or scalp dht matters more for AGA category and the sub-category of diffuse thinning ? If one matters more, does the other matter more? Thanks, have a good evening.

That hair follicle study from Japanese scientists was this I suppose, 92% reduction of dht, basically nuking it.

Unrelated but you could find scalp reduction figures and serum reduction figures yourself over the internet, 51% and over 90% respectively (blocking both type I and type II).

There by the way exists some individuals who claim to lose hair despite hopping on dutasteride, for these reasons I decided to open up this topic.

The DHT that actually reaches the follicle/dermal papilla is what matters biologically. “scalp DHT” numbers are whole-skin averages and can understate what’s happening right where miniaturization is driven (AR signaling in dermal papilla and adjacent sheath). So if you must choose, intrafollicular (hair/follicle) DHT is the more relevant metric; serum/scalp-skin values are proxies.
