Hello fellow hair loss sufferers. I have been battling the good fight for about 5 years now I’m 31M. I recently stopped finasteride cold turkey and moved to Dutasteride 6 months ago.
My regimen is Oral Dutasteride .5mg 2x a week and liquid minoxidil daily. I noticed my hairline slowly suffering with finasteride and other things which led me to make the switch. Dutasteride has been a much better medication compared to Finasteride imo for how it affects me.
I noticed a terrible shed after 4 weeks of the transition. To this day the shed has slowed down but seems to continue (6 months) I have noticed regrowth from some of the shedded areas and temples growing in a little, but overall I’m below baseline in density in temple/crown and experiencing itch and dandruff since switching.
At this point I am debating adding another Duta pill a week which would be 3x a week but I am not sure that’s the right move since I have only been on treatment for 6 months and worried it may introduce worse shedding at this point. I also worry 2x a week is not enough and I need to up the dose.
You shouldn’t lose ground on fin. Changing your stack is usually a bad idea, but in your case I’d do 5 days fin and 1-2 days duty. That way you will never have to worry about losing ground again
Any dose of 0.1mg or higher will work aswell as 1mg fin. Higher doses are for more re-growth. As for the shedding, it’s too complex to say exactly why it’s happening at any given time. The main thing to keep in mind is that the medication will stop your hairloss, don’t worry about shedding and when you decide on a stack, stick with it for at least 1 year before re-evaluating. GL
I can not take finasteride even .25mg 3x week as the side effects are much worse than when i take dutasteride. my estrogen skyrockets on fin and have terrible brain fog and headaches. none of these sides from dutasteride and actually no sides from dutasteride besides better libido. finasteride also gave me gyno and dutasteride my nips don’t itch or ache.
main concern is if if add another dut pill a week at 6 months if that’s okay since i’m still shedding.
