Dutasteride + Minoxidil Worked—Then Developed a Minoxidil Allergy. Hairline Getting Worse. Any Advice?

I’ve been dealing with hair loss for years and finally found a combo of oral dutasteride and topical minoxidil that actually stopped my shedding for about six months. Unfortunately, I started getting major scalp irritation from minoxidil, got patch tested, and it came back positive for a contact allergy—so I had to quit minoxidil entirely.

Since then, I lost all my minoxidil-dependent hairs, and even though I’m still on dutasteride, my temples and now even the center of my hairline are thinning. Kind of at a loss here.

Anyone else been through this? Is there anything that actually helped after losing minoxidil and not being able to go back on it? I’d appreciate any ideas or advice.

Thanks!

If you developed an allergy to min, one option is to try using oral min, which may not trigger the same reaction. You might also look into microneedling, which can stimulate hair growth and improve scalp health. Ketoconazole shampoo can help manage scalp issues. Keep using dut to maintain suppression of DHT.
