Do I need to cut/shave my hair for effective microneedling on the vertex?

Hey guys,

I just got a Dr. Pen M8 for microneedling and I’ve got a couple of questions before starting. Is there an ideal hair length so the needles can properly reach the scalp? I was thinking of using 1.0–1.5 mm on the vertex, does that sound about right? I’ve added a photo of the area – should I trim it shorter, shave it, or just leave it as it is? Also, can longer hair actually get damaged during microneedling if it’s not cut?

Thanks a lot for the advice

Hey, keeping your hair short can help with microneedling, making it easier for the needles to reach the scalp. 1.0–1.5 mm is a good length for the needles. Leaving it as is might be fine if the tool can reach the scalp effectively, but trimming could help. Longer hair might get in the way, but it won’t necessarily get damaged if you go slowly.
