Considering Switching Minoxidil from Twice to Once Daily due to Scalp Flakiness and Job Constraints

Hi folks,

I’ve been on 5% topical minoxidil and 1.25 mg oral finasteride for about three weeks now. My hair is mostly thinning at the temples, not so much at the crown.

Currently, I apply minoxidil twice a day—1 ml in the morning and 1 ml at night. However, my scalp is already flaky, and minoxidil makes it worse. I know for sure that once my job starts in a few months, I won’t be able to sustain applying it in the morning.

So, would it be better to switch to once a day now, maybe with a slightly increased dose (1.5 ml), or should I stay with twice a day and switch once my job starts?

Also, I’ve heard that once your body adapts to a routine, changing it can cause you to lose your gains. I don’t want that to happen, so I’m wondering if it’s better to switch now to avoid issues later.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Switching to once a day could work if twice daily isn’t sustainable. Increasing to 1.5 ml might help maintain efficacy. Make sure to moisturize your scalp to handle the flakiness, maybe try ketoconazole shampoo or CBD with MCT oil to help. Adjustments might take time, so monitor closely.
