I’ve been taking topical finasteride 0.25%, 1ml daily, for almost eight months. I wash my hair every 24 hours before applying finasteride. There’s been a slight improvement since starting treatment. I’m considering increasing the dose to 0.33% or even 0.5%. I’m also considering switching to oral finasteride, as that would eliminate the need to wash my hair daily. Is it true that topical finasteride is absorbed systemically over time anyway? I only use finasteride; I don’t use minoxidil, and I don’t plan to use it for now. What do you think I should do?
If you’re seeing some results with 0.25% topical fin, you could try increasing the concentration to 0.33% or 0.5% to see if results improve. While topical fin is less systemic, there’s still some absorption, so switching to oral fin might enhance hair preservation, but with a higher risk of systemic side effects. If convenience is a factor, oral fin is a good option since you wouldn’t need to wash your hair before each application.
