Confused About Starting Oral vs. Topical Fin + Minox with Derma Rolling

Hey everyone, I was losing my hair and decided to get it checked by a hair specialist. He told me it’s aga and to use fin + minox topical solution 5 percent.

I asked him if oral fin was more effective and he said yes, but didn’t recommend it because people stop taking it after a while and aren’t regular.

I told him I’d be regular and he prescribed me oral fin(.5mg) + topical minox (apply twice daily)

Now the only concern I have right now is the side effects of oral fin compared to topical fin + minox.

I would be derma rolling/stamping once a week as well alongside the fin/minox. So I am a bit confused if I should start with topical fin +minox or directly jump to oral fin + minox.

Please let me know what you all think Thanks

If you’re worried about side effects from oral fin, starting with topical fin + min might be a good option. Topical fin tends to have fewer side effects due to less systemic absorption. Keep up with the derma rolling; it can boost min’s effectiveness. Check out The Beginner’s Guide for more info on starting treatment.

Topical finasteride won’t work in regions where it does not come into contact on epidermis. Oral finasteride is superior by all accounts to topical finasteride. You would need to apply topical finasteride from the beginning of the upper occipital area all the way to the frontal lobe, not skipping temporal lobes adjacent to ears too. Basically in layman’s terms that means applying it wherever the horseshoe pattern does not emerge, wherever you are balding. This would require likely speaking 7-8 mL of finasteride solution (eg. 0.1%) per day and I think oral would be better as at that range topical still goes systemic, though this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.
