Hi everyone. I decided to post here because I’m genuinely worried and would really appreciate hearing from people who’ve gone through something similar.
I’ve been noticing hair loss localized mainly to the frontal hairline, especially around the temples. What concerns me is that it doesn’t look like classic diffuse thinning, but rather a recession of the hairline, with areas where the skin is more visible and some very thin, short hairs in between.
One important detail: I’ve had an M-shaped hairline since childhood, so having temples has always been normal for me. The difference now is that I’m clearly losing hair, which wasn’t happening before. This change feels recent and noticeable.
Another thing that really worries me is the asymmetry, the left side is thinning much more and the right side was almost completely intact until a few months ago, and only recently started to thin
Because of that, I’m unsure whether this is just typical androgenetic alopecia or something else.
I already had a trichoscopy done by a dermatologist, and I was told that it did not look like scarring alopecia, which should have been reassuring. However, I left the appointment feeling confused, because I still see my frontal hairline receding and can’t stop worrying about early frontal fibrosing alopecia or another type of cicatricial alopecia, especially since I’ve read that early stages can be subtle.
I started finasteride 0.5 mg about one week ago
I’m also taking pumpkin seed oil (I know it’s far too early to see results, but I wanted to start something)
My questions for those who can help:
Has anyone experienced predominantly frontal and asymmetrical hair loss?
For those with frontal fibrosing alopecia, how did it start?
Can this still be an atypical presentation of androgenetic alopecia, even with such asymmetry?
Did anyone manage to stabilize or improve something similar after starting treatment?
I’ll continue medical follow-up, but I’d really like to hear real experiences, since photos and personal reports often help put things into perspective.
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read and respond.
