Concerned About 5 mL Minoxidil Dose for Seborrheic Dermatitis

I recently visited a dermatologist/trichologist (quite reputable based on online reviews and pricing) for an issue with seborrheic dermatitis and thinning in some areas of my scalp caused by it. The treatment prescribed by the doctor included the use of a shampoo and a foam to treat the dermatitis, and starting two weeks after beginning this treatment, the introduction of a 5% minoxidil compounded solution, to be applied at a dose of 1 mL per each of the 5 designated areas on my scalp—totaling 5 mL per day. However, after doing some reading online and on specialized websites, this amount seemed unusual and excessive to me, since everywhere I read, it’s generally advised not to exceed 2 mL per day. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Would you follow the doctor’s instructions blindly?

5 mL of min is quite a bit more than the typical dose. It’s usually limited to 2 mL a day due to potential irritation and systemic absorption risks. If you’re concerned, discuss with your dermatologist. They might have specific reasons for this dosage.
