Balding since 2023, topical fin+keto+min since early 2025

I need some advice. I’ve been really stressed and anxious about my hair. I’ve been dealing with shedding since 2023, and I know it’s genetic it comes from my dad’s side. This year, I started using HIMS topical treatment (finasteride 0.3%, ketoconazole 2.2%, minoxidil 2.2%, biotin 0.2%), and I understand that increased shedding at the start is normal.

But my concern is that the product needs to be used daily, and it leaves my hair really oily and soggy, which makes me self-conscious. I’m considering stopping because of how greasy my hair looks all the time.

I don’t want to take oral finasteride because I’m prone to gynecomastia, and unfortunately, a hair transplant is out of my budget. I feel like my only options are either going bald at 28 or switching to something like Rogaine (minoxidil) and using it every other day instead.

Has anyone been through something similar or have advice? I wish I could stick with the HIMS treatment and be patient, but the way my hair looks daily is really hard to deal with. I’d appreciate any help or suggestions.

Sticking with topicals is a good call. Min won’t tackle DHT like fin does but can still help with hair growth. You might try applying in smaller amounts or at different times, even evening applications, to see if it improves greasiness. There are other companies that make similar formulations if you ever want to switch.

I’m there too. I hate this Minoxidil solution; I use the Rogaine one. Look at the picture—how greasy it is. With this, my hair looks unkempt and even thinner, with my scalp visible. I want to finish the bottle of Minoxidil and switch to the foam, which is supposed to be less greasy.
