Advice on Receding Hairline and Finasteride Concerns (m24)

I need some advice from the community.
For the past six months, I (m24) have noticed that my hairline has been receding further and further back. I only really started to panic when I noticed that the area around my parting isn’t as full as it used to be.
All the men in my family still have a full head of hair, but it clearly looks like hereditary hair loss. A dermatologist confirmed this as well. I don’t know how far or how quickly the hair loss will progress, and the doctor said I should start by using topical minoxidil. She initially ruled out finasteride.
What do you think—how should I approach this? I’m pretty wary of the possible side effects of finasteride.

Starting with topical min is a good move since it can help regrow and thicken hair without the risk of systemic side effects like fin. You can also add ketoconazole shampoo to your routine to help with scalp health. If you’re worried about fin’s side effects, keep monitoring your progress with min and see how it goes. Hair growth with min might take around 3-6 months, so stay consistent.
