58M: Nizoral Stopped Working for Scalp Itching, Alternatives?

I’m 58 have dealt with hair loss since my 20’s. I’ve had one FUE treatment. I take generic finasteride 1 mg daily because prescription is cheaper. However, not sure how well it really works. I have a scar along my hairline from a teenage accident so this is why I care. Otherwise would have given up and shaved bald.

My question is shampoo. For years Nizoral was my go to and it seemed to do wonders. Then, around last December I noticed it stopped being effective. I notice this because of itching which I take to be DHT attacking my follicles. I have tried a few other shampoos but have the best success with the itching with shampoo called Equate. It’s a T-gel type shampoo (as Neutrogenia no longer manufacturers), it keeps it under control. I also tried DermaKB but maybe I haven’t stayed on it long enough to be effective. Now when I try to back to Nizoral it still is not very effective. Any thoughts or experiences with this?

If Nizoral isn’t working as it used to, it might be worth alternating with another antifungal or anti-inflammatory shampoo like the Equate T-Gel you’ve been using. Sometimes scalp conditions can change, requiring adjustments in your treatment routine. Consider trying CBD oil with MCT to manage inflammation as well. Keep using the fin, as it’s addressing the DHT aspect of your hair loss. Check out The Beginner’s Guide for more insights on treatment options.
