31M: Assessing Norwood Scale After 8 Days Growth & Past Finasteride Use

Hi, 31 year old male here and a bit of background. I started balding in my mid 20s and hopped on finasteride when I turned 27 (1 mg, 3x a week - MWF). I stopped taking it after about 2.5 years due to compounding sides I was experiencing and general depression . I was just getting shorter and shorter haircuts and then started shaving my head after 8 months of this and have been shaving ever since. I’m looking into getting back on fin at a lower dose or topical fin because I possibly want to look toward a hair transplant in the future but first want to see what people think of my Norwood scale and if it’s too far gone. This is the most I’ve grown the hair out since shaving and it’s been about 8 days. The first four pictures are of the growth after 8 days and the last picture is one of the last days before I shaved my head (~1.5 years ago)

Is this enough hair to tell the Norwood pattern or do I need to wait longer? Appreciate any assistance here and I can clarify anything in the comments!

Hey, with just 8 days of growth, it’s tough to pinpoint your Norwood level accurately. Usually, you’d wait several weeks to really see where you stand. I’d give it more time to grow out before deciding on your next steps or considering a transplant. Since you’re contemplating going back on treatment, low-dose oral or topical might work if you experienced sides with higher doses before. Check out the The Beginner’s Guide on this stuff.
