30M, 6 Years on Finasteride, Noticing Increased Hair Loss Despite Stable Hairline

Hi, the situation is this: using Finasteride for more than 6 years, noticed a few weeks ago that my density all over my head is terrible after I looked in a mirror which was close to natural light whilst having wet hair. I panicked and upped Finasteride back to 1mg (I was taking 0.5mg for a few months) which I figured won’t do much, at least according to studies. I also ordered Keto and Min, but I hate the fact that I have to apply some foam everyday for the rest of my life.

This is a horror scenario for me, as I recently got out of a long term relationship and my hair affects my confidence as well as my attractiveness which I need badly right now. I don’t understand what’s going on. I thought of some possible scenarios:

  1. Finasteride lost effectiveness. Took it for 6 years so it’s less efficient after a while. But it’s weird because I feel like my hairline is more or less the same, so I figured if Finasteride wasn’t working anymore, my hairline should’ve started receding more too.

  2. I always thought I had poor density and my haircut is not doing any favors. I have medium hair, but I fear if I cut it short, it’ll look even worse, I am anxious to go even to the barber.

  3. Shedding. I don’t know how common it is after such a long time of usage. Although tbh I never stopped seeing hairs in the sink all these years I took Finasteride. I mean I don’t expect my hair to stop falling completely, but still.

  4. Stress/gym/age/other factors: I am 30 and I started going to the gym regularly for about 2-3 months. There is no proof that gym affects hair loss in any way while on Finasteride afaik. I’m also 30 years old so maybe age has an impact?

keep using fin as it’s likely still working since your hairline is stable. Going back to 1mg from 0.5mg might lead to some shedding but you should stabilize over time. If it’s more about density than hairline, adding min could help increase density since it promotes hair growth. Haircuts can make hair look thicker. Stress and gym aren’t directly affecting your hair, so it’s more likely just a perception change. Min will help. Feel free to search The Beginner’s Guide for more about these treatments.
