[29M] Living in Japan. Need advice on transitioning Finasteride brands, sourcing options, adding Minoxidil, and managing chronic scalp inflammation/burning

Hi everyone,
I am a 29-year-old male currently living in Japan. Back in April, I traveled to Thailand and bought a supply of Firide (Finasteride 1mg). My current supply will eventually run out, and since I am now based in Japan, I have a few crucial questions regarding my next steps.

  1. Switching Finasteride Brands
Can I safely switch from Firide to any other brand of Finasteride 1mg once my current stock ends? Will changing the brand affect my progress or cause any issues?
  2. Sourcing in Japan Without a Doctor’s Prescription
Is there a reliable way to buy Finasteride and Minoxidil in Japan online without a local doctor’s prescription? I have heard about personal import (Kojin Yunyu) websites. Which specific sites are actually legitimate, safe, and trusted by the community here?
  3. Adding Minoxidil: Oral vs. Topical 5%
I want to combine Minoxidil with my Finasteride routine. Should I opt for oral Minoxidil or a topical 5% solution? If oral is better, what is a safe and effective starting dosage? If topical is recommended, is 5% sufficient for my condition?
  4. My Hair Loss Pattern & History
My temple hairline has actually remained exactly the same for the past 7 years; it hasn’t receded further. However, while my hair used to be very thick, my overall hair density has recently become significantly and noticeably thinner. Does this sound like diffuse thinning rather than a typical Norwood receding pattern? What treatment stack works best for this specific situation?
  5. Scalp History & Persistent Inflammation
To give some important context on my scalp health: about 3 years ago, I suffered from extremely severe dandruff, characterized by thick, silver-colored scales that I could literally peel off in large flakes from my scalp. Since the beginning of this year, I made some major dietary changes, which surprisingly helped clear up the dandruff significantly.
However, even though the flakes are mostly gone, the underlying scalp inflammation still persists. A major trigger for me is wearing headwear; if I wear a hat all day, my scalp—especially right at the roots of my hair—feels a very uncomfortable stinging and burning sensation.
  6. Recent Dermatologist Experience
I recently visited a Japanese dermatologist (Hifuka) because of this persistent inflammation. To be honest, the doctor barely examined my scalp—he just touched my hair briefly and diagnosed that the inflammation was the root cause of my hair loss.
He prescribed some oral medications, a topical lotion, and a medicated shampoo. I have been strictly following this routine for about 2 months now, but I haven’t noticed any visible improvement in either the inflammation or the hair thinning.
Has anyone experienced severe thinning triggered or worsened by this kind of chronic scalp inflammation and burning?
Should I continue with the dermatologist’s routine, or should I prioritize

standard AGA treatments like Finasteride and Minoxidil?
