28M Considering Dutasteride After Finasteride Side Effects; Seeking Advice

Hello all,

28M with pretty severe hair loss, NW5, but very fine hair.

Have been battling hair loss for 5 years + now, but should have started 10 years ago lol (hindsight 20/20). Have been using topical minox the whole time, which has slowed the loss, but not by much.

Attempted oral fin about 3 years ago but had serious libido sides, so I stopped. In the 3 months I took it, I could see pretty significant improvement in hair regrowth and density.

So I decided to start taking topical fin + minox spray from Hims, but have seen virtually no improvement in the year I have been on it. I expect, once again, it has slowed the loss, but not made any improvements, but I experienced zero sides.

Im thinking of trying dutasteride, if anything just to tick it off the list of options to say I’ve tried it.

My question is this…

Has anyone had sides from fin and moved to DUT with any success?

And would taking the topical fin with zero sides have increased my tolerance to oral fin?

Its frustrating knowing that the cure is there, and that if I took it for 12 months I could make serious gains, but at the same time, I enjoy having an existing libido. Thanks

Switching from fin to dut can work, as dut is more potent in lowering DHT. However, side effects like libido changes are still possible. Some have success with topical fin before reconsidering oral options, as it minimizes side effects.
