26M 2 years on 1mg Finasteride only, hair stabilized but still thinning, should I add Oral Minoxidil?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 26-year-old male and for exactly two years now I’ve been taking 1 mg finasteride daily, and that’s the only thing I’ve been doing so far.

I first noticed my hair thinning about two years ago, which is when I started finasteride. In my opinion, finasteride has done

a really good job of stabilizing things. I wouldn’t say I’ve noticed continued thinning over these two years.. if anything, I think it may have slightly improved compared to when I first started. So overall, I think finasteride has worked well for me in terms of stopping progression.

However, I’m still quite self-conscious about the thinning, especially at 26, so I’m wondering if I should add oral minoxidil.

I’m attaching photos of how my hair looks today. I should say this is right after a shower, which makes it look a lot worse than usual. When my hair is dry day-to-day, it doesn’t look this thin, but I still feel this reflects the thinning most accurately.. this is probably the worst it looks, but also the most honest representation.

My main questions:

Would you recommend oral minoxidil in my situation?

• I probably wouldn’t use topical minoxidil; it just doesn’t fit my lifestyle.

• I live in the UK, so the most realistic option seems to be the Hims combined finasteride + minoxidil chewable tablet. Does anyone have experience with that and would you recommend it?

• I’ll be honest: oral minoxidil scares me a bit because I’ve read about possible cardiovascular side effects like heart palpitations. That’s the main thing that has put me off so far. How real/common is this in your experience? I see a lot of enthusiasm for this including from our favourite longevity expert Bryan Johnson, so maybe I was quick to dismiss it!

If people think oral minoxidil would be effective in my case based on my situation, I’d really appreciate your advice. And if there’s anything else you think I should be doing at this stage, I’d be very grateful to hear it.

Thanks very much. I really appreciate this community.

Oral min can boost regrowth alongside fin if you’re noticing thinning. It’s more potent than topical min but some worry about side effects like heart palpitations. They’re rare, especially at low doses for hair loss. If you’re uncomfortable, sticking with only fin is fine, but oral min could complement it. Check out local options or online providers for oral min if you decide to try it.
