23M Receeding hairline, Hair fall and Hair thinning - Feeling mentally drained

Hi everyone,

I’m going through a really tough phase with my hair and would genuinely appreciate some guidance.

Over the last 10–12 months, I’ve experienced:

  • Rapid hair thinning (density reduced a lot)

  • Noticeable receding temples (Norwood ~2)

  • Diffuse thinning, especially visible under light (including crown)

  • Hair becoming very thin, weak, and lifeless (like “thin grass”)

Earlier, I had very thick and dense hair, and it was honestly a big part of my identity and confidence. The change has been very sudden and hard to accept.

Treatments I’ve taken so far:

  • 2 sessions of GFC

  • 2 sessions of PRP (including biotin PRP)

  • Ketoconazole shampoo (helped dandruff)

  • Supplements and serums prescribed by clinic

Despite this, I see no visible improvement yet, and hairfall/thinning still continues.

My concerns:

  • Is this level of rapid thinning normal?

  • Can minoxidil + finasteride actually recover density and hairline in my case?

  • Is the initial shedding phase real, and how bad can it get?

  • Should I continue PRP/GFC or stop?

  • Am I a good candidate for transplant later, and how many grafts might I need (approx)?

Mental side (being honest):
This has affected me a lot emotionally:

  • Loss of confidence

  • Avoiding social situations

  • Constant stress and overthinking

I know hair isn’t everything, but the sudden change has been really difficult to process.

Would really appreciate:

  • Honest opinions

  • Similar experiences

  • What actually worked for you

Thanks in advance :folded_hands:

With AGA, seeing real improvement can take up to a year, so don’t lose hope yet. Min and fin can help with density and slowing loss, but shedding initially is normal. If no improvement after a year or hair keeps worsening, a hair transplant could be an option depending on the donor area and density. Keep using ketoconazole for scalp health. PRP’s impact varies, so you might weigh its cost vs. benefit. Look through the Beginner’s Guide for more treatment tips. Stay patient, results take time! If mental health is affected, consider connecting with local support or forums.

Thank you so much.

Your words have given me hope about the treatment. Not socializing feels like being physically alive but mentally empty. Hair used to be my identity, and now it feels like the thing holding me back from having one. How quickly things can change.

Can I regrow my hairline and density with non-surgical topical treatment?
