23M – 3rd doctor prescribed Dutasteride + Oral Minoxidil. Should I start?

Hi everyone,

I’m 23 and noticed some recession in my hairline. I’m not exactly sure about the Norwood stage, but it feels like early stage (maybe around Norwood 2). My first dermatologist visit was about 6 months ago. Since then, I don’t think there has been much visible change in my hairline (though I haven’t monitored it actively).

This is my third dermatologist. The first two only gave me hair oils, serums, and some natural supplements (which claimed to be alternatives to Finasteride). This doctor is the first one who has actually prescribed proper medical treatment.

Current Prescription:

Dutasteride 0.5mg once daily

Oral Minoxidil 2.5mg twice daily

Inbilt-F 5% (Topical Finasteride + Minoxidil) twice daily

Ketoconazole shampoo twice a week

Is it a good idea to start with Dutasteride + this entire prescription straight away at age 23, or should I try something else first (like Finasteride instead of Dutasteride)? Will these medications affect my ability to have children in 6–7 years? Is Dutasteride riskier in this combination? Please help.

Dutasteride is more effective than fin for hair loss but might carry more risk for side effects, though nothing is conclusively proven. Given your age and early-stage hair loss, your regimen seems aggressive but effective. This combo is safe for many. Talk with a doc if in doubt
