22M Considering Minoxidil/Finasteride for Crown Thinning, Seeking Dosage Advice

Sorry for the post, don’t use Reddit much and can’t post on seemingly more relevant communities yet.

Just turned 22 this month (Male), about to start a full time job in a new city and have noticed a bit of thinning around my crown area. Since I have pretty thick hair, depending on the lighting or if I don’t push my hair back it can be more obvious because of the contrast.

For context, I try to remain active, use the sauna, eat a fairly nutritious and balanced diet, take supplements, sleep schedule is a bit messed up though.

I have flakiness and dandruff that I have a regimen for (Nizoral Ketoconazole shampoo 1x per week, Nizoral SA shampoo 2x per week, Cerave gentle shampoo and Cerave gentle conditioner any other times, I use a scalp scrubber, exfoliate my scalp with The Ordinary Glycolic acid 1x per week, use a couple drops of MCT oil after blow drying my hair so my hair isn’t rough, and supplement with biotin).

Been debating starting Minoxidil or Finasteride but I’m a bit afraid of the sexual sides that might come with the latter and don’t wanna experience a ton of shedding if the rest of my head is okay.

I definitely want to start earlier than later but need advice on brands that you all can attest for and potentially even dosages of medication as well as oral or topical routes. I’d be interested to hear all of your thoughts and potentially even guys that started it in their 20s what they can say about sides as well as what happened if they discontinued use. Thanks again.

min is great for stimulating hair growth and fin stops further DHT damage. If you’re worried about fin sides, start with a lower dose or try topical. Oral min is more potent than topical, but topical is a good start if you’re concerned about sides. Use The Beginner’s Guide to get started with treatments. Keep using your Nizoral shampoo for dandruff and DHT reduction. If shedding happens, it’s normal when starting treatment. Stick with it for at least a year to see results.

Thanks for the help! Any recs on brands for topical fin ?
