22M Considering Finasteride After Minoxidil for Receding Temples and Thinning Crown

I’m 22 years old my temples are slightly receded, my top and crown are visually thinning but still in the okay range.

Already started minoxidil and I know that its results are very limited without finasteride since I’m not even addressing the root cause which is DHT miniaturizing my follicles.

It’s always on my mind and I really want to start taking it but I’ve asked a dermatologist and 2 senior pharmacists I know which are good at their job and they advised me against it.

I’m also conflicted because of the different views on the internet, for example I keep seeing on my tiktok fyp posts of some young man heavily recommending it and that you should start asap cause it will be too late which is already very sketchy disregarding the fact that they always got some link in their bio with the goal of selling you something.

Some medical sources advise for it some against it some papers reveal it has terrible side effects some say it’s low probability and most “sides” are nocebo.

The PFS subreddit scares me shitless from that medication but at the same time I know it can be an echo chamber of people experiencing nocebo and unrelated conditions.

Knowing all of that I would really like trying it, I’m fine getting temporary sides that stop after a time or if I quit but I’m not fine at all getting any permanent sides like the PFS subreddit and some sources describe.

How do you think I should take my decision? Any sort of valuable information that helps me choose is greatly appreciated.

Fin blocks DHT, which causes hair follicle miniaturization. While min alone helps, fin could address the root cause, making treatment more effective. Concerns about PFS are often based on anecdotal reports, and clinical studies show low risk of long-term side effects.
