19M with OCD: Anxiety Over Minoxidil Application – Seeking Tips and Support

SO I have OCD and GAD, and I’m also balding. You’d think that applying minoxidil would be a straightforward thing, but almost every time I wind up worrying about:

  • Applying too much
  • Applying too little
  • Did I get it on the spots?
  • Did I apply too much in one spot?
  • Did it even reach my scalp??
  • Do I need to apply again?
  • Is this even working?
  • Oh no, I shouldn’t have applied again
  • Have I washed my hands thoroughly enough?
  • Where did I get it? It’s everywhere. I need to wash everything nowadays
  • Is it getting worse? It’s getting worse
  • No, it’s not. I just need to give it time
  • Nope. Nope it’s bad. I’m doomed and I’m gonna be hideous and bald forever

You get the point. It almost always winds up into an anxiety death-spiral that leaves me stressed out and exhausted

Does anyone else relate to this? Any tips or advice?

I (19M) am a diffuse thinner and started out with topical minoxidil, and not only was it hard to apply on diffusely thinning hair, but the mental effects of looking at your thinning every morning and night were bad. This is a medication you have to be on for the rest of your hair journey so imo it’s not worth it if it stresses you out when you apply it topically. That’s why I switched to oral min and just take a pill a day and forget abt it, I recommend you do the same if it is possible for you.
